Largest crayon
19 November - Hinesville, Georgia
Scribbling across the pages of Guinness World Records fame, Keep Liberty Beautiful – an organization dedicated to keeping Liberty County “clean and beautiful” – created the world’s largest crayon: a 605.5 lb (274.4 Kg), 9 ft 8 in (2.98 metres) colossal creation consisting of 119,646.8 recycled crayons gathered from around Liberty County.
Sporting a visually-rich plum color - which the organizers aptly named “Liberty” - the crayon was displayed in Lyman Hall Elementary School’s gymnasium.
Standing among hundreds of wide-eyed students, Leah Poole - a United Way employee who originated the project idea - as well as Sara Swida, director of Keep Liberty Beautiful, smiled approvingly at the colorful tower engineered by Dave Sapp – Liberty County Solid Waste Director.
According to event organizers, the crayon was built “for a variety of reasons…(such as) community involvement….toward one common goal, (and to visually demonstrate) the different cultures and ethnicities of (Liberty County’s) ‘melting pot.’”
